Ingredient Notes

- Ground Beef: The protein base of this burger bowl.
- Baby Potatoes: I love the crispy edges. You could substitute sweet potatoes instead if that’s what you have or like.
- Lettuce: Romaine and butter leaf hold up well and give you that classic burger-topping crunch without wilting too fast.
- Tomatoes: For the classic burger toppings vibe. Grape tomatoes or Campari tomatoes are so flavorful.
- Avocado: Contributes creamy texture, healthy fats, and extra nutrients for balance.
- White Cheddar Cheese: My go-to for that classic burger flavor, but use whatever cheese you love on your burgers.
- Salt and pepper, olive oil, onion powder, garlic powder
- Optional additional toppings: Red onion, pickles, pickled onions, bacon bits — make it your own!

Plus, for the sauce:
- Mayo: The creamy base of the sauce.
- Ketchup: Adds a little sweetness and that signature burger-sauce color.
- Mustard: Yellow mustard and spicy mustard both work well.
- Worcestershire: Adds more flavor + umami
- Dill Pickles + Pickle Brine: Finely chopped pickles add texture and tang, and the brine boosts the flavor even more and thins the texture out a bit.
- Onion powder, garlic powder, paprika
How to Make Healthy Hamburger Bowls (step by step)
- Quarter the baby potatoes and toss them with olive oil, salt, and pepper. Roast at 425°F for 30–40 minutes until crispy and golden, tossing halfway through so all sides get crispy.
- While the potatoes are cooking, combine all sauce ingredients in a small bowl. Finely chop the dill pickles before adding. Whisk until smooth and set aside.
- Heat oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the ground beef, breaking it up with a spatula. Season with onion powder, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Cook until browned and no longer pink.
- Let the ground beef cool slightly before adding it to the bowls — this helps prevent the veggies from wilting too much.
- While the beef and potatoes cook, chop the lettuce, slice the tomatoes, dice the red onion (if using), and slice the avocado.
- Assemble the bowls by layering lettuce, the cooked potatoes, and ground beef. Top with tomatoes, avocado, cheese, and any additional toppings you like. Drizzle with the special burger sauce before serving.

Substitutions and Variations
The beauty of hamburger bowls is just how versatile they are! Here are some fun ways to switch things up:
- Fried egg — for an extra protein boost and delicious runny yolk
- Your favorite hamburger veggies — mushrooms, jalapeños, or grilled onions
- Rice instead of potatoes — or try sweet potatoes to mix it up
- Change up the cheese — blue cheese, pepper jack, or gouda for different flavor profiles
- Hashbrowns — if you’re feeling like extra crispy potatoes
- Additional toppings: pickles, pickled onion, pepperoncinis, bacon
- Sauce variations: The sauce makes all the difference! I used Smash Burger Sauce in this one, but you could mix it up with my Creamy Cilantro Lime Sauce too.
Storage and Reheating
These burger bowls store well in the fridge for 3 to 4 days.
I recommend storing the veggies separately from the ground beef and potatoes to quickly reheat the warm components in the microwave.
Add the sauce once you’re ready to eat.
